Formative Years and Academic Foundations
Heather Matuszek moved to Stuart, Florida, in 1996, where she grew up alongside her younger and older sister. Her childhood was filled with a passion for sports, playing ice hockey and baseball and participating in various athletic activities during middle and high school. Heather attended Martin County High School, where she was a versatile athlete, engaging in softball, powderpuff flag football, and rowing. She also demonstrated leadership qualities early on, serving as the class vice president for two years.
Scholarly Achievements and Collegiate Experience
After graduating from Martin County High School in 2005, Heather attended Mercer University, where she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Leadership and Service. During her time at Mercer, she was a leader in the Baptist Collegiate Ministries, participated in intramural sports, and was actively involved in community service. Heather’s academic prowess led her to co-author a research publication in the Journal of Morphology, which remains one of her proudest achievements. Simultaneously, just a few months before graduation from Mercer, Heather’s older sister tragically passed away in a car accident.
Beginnings in the Workforce
Following her graduation, Heather moved back home to be close to her family after the loss of her sister. During this period, she worked as a substitute teacher in the local school system, coached at the high school level, and served in several local ministries.
Heather’s professional journey began with an opportunity to serve as a leader in a Quick Service Restaurant (QSR), where she worked from 2010 to 2013. She quickly advanced to managerial positions, driven by her passion for leadership, systems, processes, and service. She simultaneously coached high school softball at Jensen Beach High School, furthering her engagement with youth and sports.
